CA Spectrum Infrastructure Management and CA NSM enable Sainsbury’s to have greater visibility of its’ IT infrastructure, improve prioritization of issues and resolve problems faster

Datchet, UK, February 23, 2010 – CA (NASDAQ: CA), CA today announced that Sainsbury’s, one of the UK’s top retailers, has implemented CA Spectrum Infrastructure Management as a further component in it’s comprehensive use of CA NSM solutions. The CA NSM solution consolidates the alarms from multiple element managers and directs these to the incident management process, whilst CA Spectrum Infrastructure Management adds network monitoring to existing application and hardware modules, thereby giving an end to end coverage of service status.

Mark Foan, Production Services Group Team Leader at Sainsbury’s said: “A problem with the de-militarised zone (DMZ) network could diminish our ability to receive and process customer orders placed online. As this represents an important and growing revenue stream for us, any downtime could be detrimental to our reputation and future success.”

He added,” CA’s Spectrum Infrastructure Manager is an intelligent solution with event correlation and fault isolation, providing us with valid alerts, which means we can prioritise issues effectively and prevent duplication of effort.

As one of the UK’s largest online food retailer making around 100,000 deliveries a week, Sainsbury’s requires a reliable and cost-effective IT infrastructure. All stores, business centres, depots and the disaster recovery site, use the company’s externally managed network for all business IT communications.

A smooth-running customer order process is assured with CA’s Spectrum Infrastructure Manager, monitoring 200+ devices in the DMZ network, and around 2000 devices residing in stores, depots and business centres. A major advantage that CA’s Spectrum Infrastructure Manager brings through its’ intuitive interface, is a wider visibility of the network status to support teams within Sainsbury’s.
With CA’s Spectrum Infrastructure Manager the organisation receives very fast notification if a performance issue occurs. In addition any problem detected within Sainsbury’s DMZ infrastructure, prompts an automatic alarm targeted to the individual who is able to resolve the issue. Using CA’s Spectrum Infrastructure Manager gives Sainsbury’s the information to work closely with their network provider to manage service levels and achieve a ‘Fix Before Fail’ method of operation.
CA’s Senior Vice President, UK and Ireland, Chris Miller said: “It is imperative that a retailer with the stature of Sainsbury’s, has the right tools in place to improve IT efficiency and lower costs as well as being able to meet the demands of online shoppers. By taking this strategic approach and growing its’ online business, Sainsbury’s can now offer a higher quality of service, while maximising availability and performance of diverse physical and virtual systems in a seamless manner. Sainsbury’s has implemented important IT changes to the business in such as way that benefits are visible to end customers.”
